Eating healthy foods is the first thing to do, if you want to fight aging. There are so many important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in fruits, vegetables, nuts, meats, chicken and fish that out body needs and wants.

There is no sure fire way to aging quicker, than having a diet high in refined white flour (white bread) and junk food. Try to eat more brown rice and whole grain breads instead.

The best way to lose weight is just eating healthy foods. I am always amazed at the numerous types of diets out there. All you really have to do is make sure you have a healthy breakfast in the mornings. Don’t skip this important meal of the day, as people who do, usually find they are continually fighting tummy fat.

A healthy breakfast can be anything from organic porridge, muesli, fruit and yoghurt, a banana smoothie with lsa (linseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds) or wholemeal toast with a poached egg.

The benefits of healthy eating can be a marvellous thing for your body, and it doesn’t take much to get what you need, to stay looking younger and feeling good.

A handful of almonds for a quick snack when you are feeling peckish, with a small piece of dark chocolate, are always good for you.

There are many vitamins your body does not store, and are flushed out of your system through your urine, which is why it is important to eat healthy foods.

Vitamins such as B12 are not stored in the body, yet this is a very important vitamin, it is responsible for healthy skin and good vision. It is also needed to help the body break down calories.

The muscles in your body contain a lot of protein, which is another why eating healthy foods is important, you need to help your body replenish that protein.

You also need to help your body create new cells, ward off diseases and cancers, and have the energy to function every day. Everything you eat passes through your digestive tract, and all the goodness from the food you have eaten is used to repair and nourish every cell in your body.

When you have a healthy diet, you have more energy; you are not so moody and can think clearly. You will have healthy hair, skin and nails, everything about you just screams ‘I am healthy’.

Three meals a day and a couple of healthy snacks in-between is all you need to do. Make breakfast your biggest meal of the day and work down, so that your evening meal is the smallest one.

Try not to eat after 7pm as your metabolism slows down towards the evening, so it is best to try and get that evening meal in sooner rather than later. This is a great way of helping the body lose weight.

The message is always the same, eating healthy foods will help you live longer and look younger.

Mindful meditation for pain relief has been proven to decrease the mind’s response to pain by 40-57% according to a discovery published in The Journal of Neuroscience. But how do you get these benefits when you’re in so much pain you can’t think? This article offers you easy meditation techniques to use for meditation for anxiety and pain relief.

But let’s briefly discuss the research behind this great discovery.

THE RESEARCH: According Fadel Zeidan, Ph.D., in The Journal of Neuroscience, “Mindfulness meditation… significantly reduced pain unpleasantness by 57% and pain intensity ratings by 40%… Together, these data indicate that meditation engages multiple brain mechanisms that alter the construction of the subjectively available experience…”

So, what is Dr. Zeidan really saying? Not only is the brain “too busy meditating” to experience pain, but that meditation in and of itself significantly changes the structure of the brain to reduce pain. This research gives great significance to using meditation for pain relief.

BENEFITS OF MEDITATION: While this research shows one of the best benefits of meditation, i.e., pain relief, there are a few other physical benefits well worth noting:

Meditation lowers stress chemicals such as cortisol and adrenaline, both of which increase pain, anxiety and depression.Meditation increases good chemicals such as endorphins that help the body stay healthier overall, which in turn lessens pain, anxiety and depression.Meditation also boosts whole brain power which answers the question that many people are asking, “How can I increase my brain power?”Meditation is one of the best relaxation techniques because of long-term and cumulative effects.

MINDFUL MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS: When learning how to meditate, it is important to find easy meditation techniques. Why? Because learning mindful meditation can take years of study and practice, and unless you are completely devoted, the task may seem to be “too much work.”

In particular, when you want to use meditation for pain relief, to put forth the effort to learn mindful meditation while feeling such pain can seem a bit daunting.

BRAINWAVE ENTRAINMENT: When you enter into a state of mindful meditation, your brain “shifts gears” to different electrical frequencies. Just like when you change stations on a radio, so your brain “changes stations” to vibrate at a different frequency. Brainwave entrainment is a way to electronically induce meditation and is one of the best types of meditation for beginners who want to use meditation for pain relief because it electronically “shifts your mind’s gears” into the various states of alpha, theta or delta.

Alpha brainwaves: This is a light meditative state where you feel calm and relaxed. If you are doing meditation for anxiety or meditation to relieve stress, this light meditative state is fine.

Theta brainwaves: This brain state is a deeper state of meditation and is used for increased memory, focus and overall well-being.

Delta brainwaves: Now this is “where it’s at” when you want pain relief. When your mind is in the delta frequency, you have increased immune function as well as put out chemicals that have a deep renewing benefit to your body.

But the delta brainwave state of mind is only achieved when we are in deep, restful sleep. So, if you have pain, which leads to insomnia, which leads to decreased sleep, which leads to less “delta time” for the brain, you are in a downward spiral.

At first, set a few minutes every day for meditation, and extend the time as you feel the bliss that you get. Let it be in the hours before dawn. Have a lamp or a candle before you with an open, steady, and straight flame. Sit in front of the candle in the lotus posture or any other comfortable sitting position. When your habits control your behavior, it makes it difficult to lose weight. Making radical changes all at once may not be the best choice because you may have a hard time giving up old habits. However, it is a good idea to identify any bad habits you have so you become aware of them, and then you can work at overcoming them and being successful with your weight loss goals.To do that, you may need to keep a food diary for a while before you make big changes to your diet. You are not only interested in what and how much you eat, but also why and how you eat. Before long, you will become aware of behaviors you have that are making you overweight. Here are a few bad eating patterns you may have:Eating too fast.Eating while standing up.Eating while driving.Eating on the run.Always cleaning your plate.Eating when you are not really hungry.Mindless eating while watching TV.Always having dessert with meals.Drinking calories.Routinely skipping breakfast or lunch.Eating out often.Eating from vending machines.When you have identified eating behaviors that contribute to overeating and poor choices, it is time to work on changing those behaviors. Here are some steps you can take.Make it a point to practice conscious eating. That means you only eat when you are sitting at the table. If you grab food on the run, or eat while standing or driving, your mind is engaged elsewhere and you are practicing mindless eating. You can consume hundreds of calories and not even remember eating anything. You won’t feel satisfied emotionally or physically. Mindless eating is also the danger when you snack while watching TV or surfing on the computer. Therefore, make a commitment to only eat meals and snacks when you are seated at the table and your full attention is on the food.If you are aware and counting the number of cookies you are eating, you may stop sooner than you would if you don’t keep track. Also, eat slowly so it seems like you are eating more and your stomach has a chance to catch up with what you are feeding it. Always leave something on your plate, even if it is a small amount so you can break the habit of cleaning your plate when you are past the point of being full.Another change you can make to help with weight loss is to bring a lunch from home rather than eating out or eating from vending machines. That way you can control the ingredients and calories. Also, if you are in the habit of eating a sweet dessert after your meals, substitute fruit such as grapes or berries so you can get a sweet fix that won’t derail your weight loss plans. It also helps to replace high calorie sodas and other drinks with zero calorie water.What you eat is very important when you want to lose weight but how you eat is important too.
